The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has intensified operations across the province, taking action against substandard food items in Mardan and Swat, officials said on Monday.
According to a spokesperson, a food safety team in Mardan raided a juice production unit and recovered more than 200 cartons of substandard juice. Low-quality packaging material used in the preparation of the product was also confiscated.
Officials said the products were intended for supply to various urban areas. The unit was sealed for violating food safety regulations, while a heavy fine was imposed on the owner and legal proceedings were initiated.
In a separate operation in Swat, the authority, in collaboration with the district administration, raided a kebab shop and recovered unhygienic minced meat.
The shop was subsequently sealed and legal action was taken.
Director General Food Authority Kashif Iqbal Jilani praised the performance of the food safety teams and said indiscriminate action against those endangering public health would continue.
He reiterated that the authority remained committed to ensuring the availability of safe and quality food across the province.
