Honorable First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari inaugurated the newly named “Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library” at Pakistan Red Crescent Society National Headquarters, Islamabad, in a ceremony held to honor the enduring humanitarian legacy and compassionate leadership of Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
The Chief Guest was accompanied by Ms. Shazia Marri, Member National Assembly. The ceremony was attended by Honorable Chairperson PRCS Mrs. Farzhana Naek, Secretary General Mr. Muhammad Abaidullah Khan, Heads of Delegation and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Turkish Red Crescent, Norwegian Red Cross, German Red Cross, along with PRCS programme heads, and officers.
The ceremony commenced with the ribbon-cutting of the newly named “Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library” by the Chief Guest, followed by a tour of the PRCS Disaster Response display and the photo exhibition titled “PRCS Humanitarian Journey.” During the visit, Chairperson PRCS Mrs Farzhana Naek briefed the Chief Guest on the humanitarian services, emergency response efforts, and historical contributions of PRCS in serving vulnerable communities across Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Aseefa Bhutto Zardari was highly appreciative of PRCS humanitarian services and graciously wore PRCS Red Jacket which symbolises volunteerism and her gracious willingness to be part of the Red Million Movement force of Youth and Volunteers of PRCS. She also encouraged the youth of Pakistan to join the volunteer network of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and contribute towards strengthening humanitarian services, community resilience, and a culture of compassion across the country.
The Chief Guest later unveiled the commemorative plaque of the Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library, followed by prayers. She also visited the library and penned her remarks in the Visitors’ Library Book, appreciating the initiative to preserve humanitarian values, learning, and volunteerism for future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Farzhana Naek, Chairperson PRCS, stated that the inauguration of the newly named Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library at PRCS National Headquarters is a tribute to the enduring legacy of compassion, public service, and humanitarian leadership of Begum Nusrat Bhutto. She said that Begum Nusrat Bhutto, as a respected national leader and former First Lady of Pakistan, played a significant role in promoting humanitarian values and strengthening the mission of PRCS through her active engagement and dedication to vulnerable communities. The library will serve as a valuable platform for learning, research, and inspiration for youth, volunteers, and future humanitarians.
Mrs Naek expressed her sincere gratitude to Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Honourable First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, for gracing the occasion as Chief Guest and inaugurating the library, terming her presence a continuation of a proud humanitarian legacy devoted to service and humanity.
The ceremony concluded with a group photograph of the Chief Guest with PRCS leadership, management, officers, and Heads of Delegation of the ICRC, IFRC, and Partner National Societies working in Pakistan.
