The use of drugs is extremely dangerous not only for the body and mind but also for society.It may provide temporary peace or pleasure, but its effects are highly destructive.A person who uses drugs faces mental problems and many other issues.There are different types of drugs, some are extremely dangerous, while others are relatively less harmful.Charas (hashish) and alcohol are counted among drugs, and their use is quite common.In hundreds of countries, there is no ban on the buying and selling of alcohol, and its consumption is widespread.The use of hashish is also very common.Heroin, opium,cocaine,ice (crystal meth)and many other types of drugs are found all over the world, and new variants are continually being discovered.A person addicted to dangerous drugs becomes extremely harmful to society.The ability to think and reason is severely affected by the use of dangerous drugs.Sometimes such individuals do not hesitate even to commit murder.Drugs are obtained in exchange for money,if there is no money, robberies and thefts are committed to acquire them.Even the most capable people in society become useless after falling victim to drugs.It is a habit that turns a human being into something worse than the dead.Often, important members of society can be seen begging to obtain drugs.
Initially, drugs are used to gain peace of mind.They are also used out of curiosity.Sometimes friends or close relatives make a person addicted.They are also used for sexual pleasure.Obtaining drugs is not difficult,they are easily available.Except for alcohol, drugs are banned in almost all countries, yet they remain accessible.Even in developed countries like America, drug use is visible.Even small children become addicted to drugs. Intoxication is also obtained from substances like petrol, Samad Bond (glue), and similar items.The use of heroin and similar drugs is extremely dangerous.
Drugs are being used from small villages to large cities.Educational institutions have also not remained safe from their effects.Many students become addicted to drugs.Some people use ice, glass (crystal meth)or hookah as a fashion statement.Many types of drugs are being used in the name of fashion.Those who start using them as fashion later become addicts.Drug users also become a source of trouble for their families.If the head of the family becomes addicted, the entire household is affected.Children are deprived of education, and family members are forced to face hunger.Often, due to the head of the family, other members also develop the addiction.
Increasing unemployment and economic hardships lead to the start of drug use.Bad company, domestic conflicts, parents’ lack of attention and feelings of inferiority also lead to drug use.However, it must be said that while some people start due to problems, millions of people are seen who do not use any kind of drugs despite extreme difficulties.Sometimes cigarette smoking begins, which later leads to other drugs.Small children are seen smoking cigarettes.Drug addiction is a habit that is extremely difficult to quit, but it is not impossible.The first use of any intoxicant creates a very pleasant feeling.Later, when the same level of peace is not achieved, the quantity of drugs is increased.People who use highly dangerous drugs become a burden on society.For example, a heroin addict is forced to live happily in extremely filthy environments.Heroin users are often seen sitting or lying on garbage heaps.Their clothes are dirty and they fall victim to many types of diseases.Often, drug addicts use the same syringe among multiple people and inject the drug directly into their veins.This practice spreads AIDS, hepatitis, and many other dangerous diseases.
Drugs are not the problem of any one country but an international issue.According to the 2025 report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC),316 million people worldwide used illicit drugs at least once in 2023.The number of people who use drugs secretly is also very high.The report states that 244 million people worldwide use hashish.Millions also use heroin and other drugs.In Pakistan, the number of drug addicts is between 70 to 80 lakh (7 to 8 million).This may be the recorded number; the actual number could be even higher.Every year, 40,000 people in Pakistan become addicted to drugs.The number of addicts is also increasing in other countries.We will have to make collective efforts to eliminate drugs.Drugs can be controlled.It is difficult, but not impossible.Awareness should be provided in educational institutions. LMosques and other places of worship should preach against drugs.Parents should keep an eye on their children’s activities.If a child becomes a victim of this habit, they should be explained with love along with strictness.Special attention should be given to their treatment.Hospitals should be built for the treatment of drug addicts, where treatment is provided as free as possible.Counseling should also be done to create hatred for drugs so that addicts can quit them.Strict legislation should be made against drugs and drug dealers should be given severe punishments.Drugs can be controlled through harsh punishments.Medical stores that sell addictive medicines without a doctor’s prescription should also be brought to justice.Some medical store owners sell addictive drugs for the sake of money,although this is neither legally nor ethically correct.The promotion of positive activities is also necessary for the elimination of drugs.For example, sports or writing and speech competitions can be organized to prevent drug use.It is clear that drugs are used for peace, but the True Lord has already declared the real peace:”Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Al-Ra’d: 28)
If we act upon the teachings of Islam, drugs can be easily controlled.In the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when the prohibition of alcohol was revealed, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) immediately stopped drinking.Even today, by following Islamic teachings, all kinds of drugs can be abandoned.
