A meeting of the Legislative Committee, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam, was held on Wednesday at the Committee Room of the Law Department to deliberate on two key legislative agenda items.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Law Department, Secretary Human Resource Management Department, officials from the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Advocate General’s Office, Board of Revenue, and other relevant departments.
The committee undertook a detailed review of the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Service Tribunal Bill, 2026. Participants examined the legal, administrative and constitutional aspects of the draft legislation and considered recommendations from the concerned departments aimed at establishing a comprehensive legal framework for the timely and effective dispensation of justice to government employees.
The second agenda item focused on proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965. Discussions covered various aspects of traffic management, vehicle registration, taxation and legal reforms required to align the existing law with contemporary needs.
The committee directed the relevant departments to further refine the proposed amendments with due consideration to public convenience and effective implementation.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Aftab Alam said that modernizing the province’s legal and administrative framework remained one of the government’s key priorities.
He emphasized the importance of broad-based consultation with all relevant stakeholders during the legislative process to ensure that laws are enacted in accordance with the principles of public interest and good governance.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was decided that necessary amendments would be incorporated into both draft laws in light of the recommendations and observations received from the participants. The revised drafts will be presented at a future meeting for final consideration.
