The inauguration ceremony of the 1st Robotic Surgery Course was held today at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, marking an important milestone in advancing surgical education and modern healthcare in Pakistan.
The three-day training course, taking place from 22nd to 24th July 2026, has been organized by Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar in collaboration with Laparoscopy Academy Pakistan and Popular International. The initiative aims to introduce surgeons to the latest developments in robotic and minimally invasive surgery through structured academic sessions and practical hands-on training.
The course has brought together renowned surgeons, experienced faculty members, expert trainers, and surgical teams from across the country. Participants will receive practical training in robotic and laparoscopic surgical techniques using advanced technology, helping them improve their surgical precision, flexibility, and control while performing complex procedures.
The training is being conducted under the patronage of Dean Khyber Medical College, Prof. Dr. Mahmud Aurangzeb, and Chairperson Department of Surgery, Prof. Dr. Mah Muneer Khan. The academic sessions and hands-on workshops are being led by distinguished master trainers Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zarin and Dr. Najaf Nawaz Siddiqui, who are sharing their expertise and practical experience with participants.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mahmud Aurangzeb highlighted the importance of adopting modern surgical technologies. He said that robotic surgery represents a major advancement in healthcare and surgical education.
He added that organizing such training programs equips surgeons with the knowledge and practical skills needed to meet international standards and lead the future of surgical innovation in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Mah Muneer Khan emphasized that continuous professional development is essential for improving healthcare services. He stated that exposure to emerging technologies enables surgeons to strengthen their clinical expertise and deliver safer and more effective patient care. He described the course as an excellent platform for learning the latest techniques in robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zarin said that robotic surgery is rapidly becoming an important part of modern surgical practice because it combines advanced technology with surgical expertise to achieve greater accuracy and better patient outcomes.
He noted that the course offers participants valuable knowledge as well as practical experience that will help them adopt these innovative techniques in their professional practice.
Sharing his views, Dr. Najaf Nawaz Siddiqui said that practical training is the foundation of developing confidence in robotic surgery.
He explained that the objective of the course is not only to introduce participants to robotic surgical systems but also to strengthen their technical skills and prepare them for the future of minimally invasive surgery through guided hands-on learning.
