Police arrested two armed men allegedly involved in aerial firing following a dispute and five others accused of gambling through mobile phones during separate operations carried out by Agha Mir Jani Shah police on Saturday, officials said.
According to a police statement, the operations were conducted under the supervision of DSP Yakatoot Circle Noor Haider Khan. SHO Agha Mir Jani Shah Tariq Jamal and Science College Police Post in-charge Zeeshan Khan led the raids with additional police personnel.
In the first operation, police responded to reports of two rival groups taking up positions against each other near Spen Jamat in Dehr Colony. The two arrested suspects were identified as Ikram and Adnan.
Police said the dispute had started with a verbal altercation, after which the two men allegedly resorted to aerial firing to intimidate each other. Acting on the information, police reached the scene and arrested both suspects.
A pistol was recovered from their possession, according to the statement.
In a separate operation, police arrested five suspects, identified as Rafiullah, Matiullah, Usman, Aslam and Ayaz, for allegedly engaging in gambling through mobile phones.
Police said they recovered cash amounting to thousands of rupees as well as mobile phones allegedly used for gambling.
Cases have been registered against all the suspects, and further investigation is under way.
