LAHORE
Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued written order on rejecting PTI application seeking permission to hold public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan.
Justice Mian Waqas issued decision on the petition of Mian Usman Akram.
According to written decision the petitioner had taken the plea that not allowing to hold public meeting is violation of article 16 of the constitution.
The court maintained article 16 allows the citizens for holding peaceful gathering. While Deputy Commissioner (DC) issues NOC for public meeting under the respective law.
It has been said in the decision that according to state counsel a meeting was held under DC regarding permission for public meeting and proposal for not holding the public meeting was placed in the meeting due to law and order situation.
The court maintained Minar-e-Pakistan is a public place where citizens come for recreation and walk.
According to written decision the state counsel told the court DC had rejected the application for holding the public meeting on August 03 .
The court maintained DC has given decision on the matter , therefore, the court rejects the application.
