The purpose of the visit was to discuss information, cooperation and the implementation of Punjab’s successful system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between the Local Government Department of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The visit was organized under the ongoing GIZ program for improving local governance in Punjab. The delegation led by Special Secretary Local Government Punjab Ms. Asia Gul met Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Khalid Iqbal. The Deputy Commissioner welcomed the members of the delegation on their arrival at Abbottabad. District Team Leader Kashif Ali from Sub National Governance (SNG) briefed the meeting regarding Land Use Plan and Building Control. Other members of the delegation included Syed Zahid Aziz MDP MDFC, Mahmood Masood Tamnna General Manager, Sohaib Rafique Deputy Manager and Sanam Irshad Advisor Local Government from GIZ.
Punjab Local Government Officers briefed the meeting about Land Use and Building Control Act in Punjab. On this occasion, SNG’s Umar Bin Abdul Aziz told the meeting that only 9% of the waste in the province is being collected by TMAs while 89% of the population does not have this facility. Later, the delegation also visited TMA Abbottabad where they were briefed about TMA affairs. District Officers Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Abbas Afridi, Additional Assistant Commissioner Sana Fatima, Additional Assistant Commissioner Haveliyan Lubni Iqbal, Additional Assistant Commissioner Galiyat Zarikyar Khan Toru, Vasa Technical Staff and other officers were also present on this occasion.
Special Secretary Local Government Punjab Madam Asia Gul thanked KP SNG and reiterated to do similar projects in future with mutual consultation and said that soon SNG KPK team will be invited to visit Punjab. At the end of the ceremony commemorative shields were presented to the Deputy Commissioner and other officers by Special Secretary Local Government Punjab.
