Peshawar(PR):Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr.Abid Saeed chaired a high level meeting regarding polio eradication, on Tuesday, at Civil Secretariat, Peshawar.
The meeting was attended by Representatives of World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, Provincial Secretary Health, Mr.Abid Majeed, Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of the whole Province and other concerned officers.
The meeting thoroughly discussed the steps taken so far and its results in this regard. It was told that December 31,2016 is the deadline for complete eradication of the polio disease, being 46 days ahead. During this period, two quality campaigns of anti-polio vaccination would be carried out in the entire province and regular interaction at gross root level would be continued during this period.
The meeting also discussed the monitoring carried out by independent sources, i.e WHO and UNICEF about the anti-polio campaign commissioned till now, in detail. Based on the previous experiences, the participants discussed different issues , being hurdles in carrying anti-polio campaign in different parts of the province and positive steps were recommended to over-come such issues in future. The Secretary Health assured the meeting for his full support and provision of all possible facilities to successfully eradicate the polio on behalf of his department.
While declaring the steps and activities taken by all the responsible quarters for the carrying out of anti-polio campaigns satisfactory, the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has appreciated the commitment and devotion of all concerned. He expressed that the Government wanted to eradicate the polio disease from the whole province at any cost.
