The Acting Governor Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani on Thursday approved strategic plan 2019-25 for the University of Malakand while conditional approval was the annual report of the university for the year 2019-20.
Acting Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Mushtaq Ghani chaired a meeting of the university syndicate at Governor House Peshawar, said a handout.
Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Malakand Dr Rasheed Ahmed, Acting Principal Secretary to Governor Saif-ul-Islam and members of Senate including officers of Higher Education Department, Finance Department and Establishment Department attended the meeting.
The meeting decided to send the case of former vice chancellor Dr Gul Zaman to the syndicate in response to the show cause notice issued on the recommendations of the inquiry report.
Mustaq Ahmad Ghani showed concern over the issue pertaining to PhD defaulter cases, adding that the university should take pragmatic steps to stop such cases in future.
The meeting also approved the rules of business of the university. On this occasion, acting governor Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani said that it was heartbreaking to hear the cases of PhD defaulters in the universities.
University staff going abroad for PhDs at a huge cost of the university, he added.
He said that the whole mechanism has to be looked into so that such cases do not come to light in future. Mushtaq Ghani said that if the university does not conduct regular review of the progress of those going abroad for PhD, it will be an administrative shortcoming.
Moreover, the Provincial Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash called on acting Governor Ahmad Ghani at the Governor House.
During the meeting, issues related to management and academy improvement of higher education universities of KP were discussed in detail.
Mr Kamran on this occasion said that the provincial government has released about Rs. 2 billion to five varsities of the province as bailout package.
He said that steps have been taken to make higher education par with international levels.
