PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly sub-committee on health on Wednesday directed the provincial Health Care Commission to take stern action against aesthetic medicines practice in the beauty salons across the province.
The committee called for awareness programs among the community members regarding negative impacts of medicines being used for skin beautification and physical modification in different beauty clinics and outlets.
The meeting of the committee was chaired by MPA Rehana Ismail and attended by its lawmaker’s members including Shafuta Malik, Soumi Falaknaz and Dr Sumira Shams.
Special and Additional Secretaries of Health Department, Special and Additional Secretaries of Industry, Deputy and Assistant Secretaries of the Provincial Assembly, CEO Health Care Commission, Assistant Professor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Medical University (KMU) and Assistant Advocate General and other concerned officers also attended the meeting.
Rehana Ismail on this occasion said that the provincial government would bring the salons and beauty clinics established throughout the province into the legal sphere.
These centers are providing different expensive services without any check and balance, she added.
Practice of Botox, fillers, laser hair removal, chemical peels, hydra facial and other aesthetic drugs in beauty salons must be regulated and the committee asked the officials of the health care commission to take effective action against the use of aesthetic medicine for the above-mentioned services. The chairperson of the committee lauded the role of MPA Shaughta Malik for raising her voice on the important health issue in the committee. In the meeting, a detailed discussion was held regarding the Consumer Protection Act 1997 and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shops and Establishment Act 2015. In the meeting, in order to bring beauty salons and aesthetic medical or surgical clinics under the regular legal framework and to implement the rules and regulations related to them, it was decided to form a special committee consisting of representatives of the health department, labor department and staff department headed by the secretary of the law department.
The committee would submit its report before the forum within 15 days.
