PESHAWAR, Feb 20 (APP): Adventure sports, a unique feature of of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakhtunkhwa has witnesseed turnaround in recent years after execution of mega development projects, record increase in devolopment budget and holding of snow festivals that generated employment opportunities for thousands of people and economic activities in large scale.

Muhammad  Ali Syed, General Manager, KP Culture and Tourism Authority told APP on Sunday that flow of International expedition teams and tourists to explore the mighty Trich Mir and others peaks has been increased in Khyber Pakthunkhwa since 2015 due to pro tourism policies of the Government.

The tourism projects, enhanced roads infrastructure and Swat Motorway had generated wealth in large scale in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a record Rs 66 billion businesses and Rs 26 billion earned by rural population only from tourism during the Eid Azha last vacations.

The tourism development budget, which was only Rs128 million in 2013-14, had been swelled to record Rs6,752 million during 2021-22 that brought turnaround around in tourism sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Following sucessful completion of Kalam and Galiyat snow festivals that attracted thousands of tourists and adventure sportsmen, the Government of KP is going to organize a three days snow festival at scenic Gabin Jabba in Swat district from February 25-27, 2022 to promote adventure and winter sports in the province.

Junaid Khan, Deputy Commissioner Swat said that traditional stalls, food court, sports, ice village, kids play area and cultural events have been planned for Gabbin Jabba snow festival starting from February 25 in the newly explored tourists resort of Pakistan.

Gabin Jabba would be yet another major event of winter sports in Swat bringing together thousands of skiers, skaters, snowboarders and adventure enthusiasts from across the country.

Besides, culture events, he said music, traditional singers, khaatak dance and Rabab with Tabla would enthrall tourists. Free mountain bike, bicycle race, archery and rock climbing would add colours to the festival.

Like Kalam and Gilyat snow festivals, the Shandor, Broghal and Gabin Jabba festivals would also attract thousands of tourists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

KP’s Malam Jabba in Swat is Pakistan’s first ever ski resort is a great source of attraction of skiing lovers while Kalam, Madain, Galiyat, Kaghan, Naran, Chitral are most suited for trekking, hiking and paragliding besides scuba diving.

Rivers Kunhar at Mansehra, River Sindh at DIKhan, River Kabul at Charsadda and Nowshera, River Swat at Kalam are most suited for water rafting and Kohi Suliman mountains range in Merged Areas and DIKhan for Camel Safari’s sports.

Khyber  Pakthunkhwa’s northern areas are blessed with unique treasures of mountains, tallest peaks and plenty of dams and lakes offering great challenges to mountaineers and hikers.

Blessed with over 1,130 mountains peaks including highest Tirich Mir (7,708m), the tallest mountain peak in Hindukash range and the world highest outside Himalaya and Karakuram ranges, Boni Zom peak (6,542m) in Chitral, Falak Sair (5,957m) at Ushu Valley and Mankiyal peak (5,650m) in Swat, Malaka Parbath peak (5,290m) at Kaghan Valley Manshera, Miranjani peak (2,992m) and Mukeshpur peak (9,200m) in Abbottabad, Koh-e-Suleman peak (3,487m) at DI Khan, and Elum peak (2800m) at Swat-Buner are attracting a large number of tourists, mountaineers and climbers throughout the year.

Khanpoor dam in Haripur, Mahudhand lake in Swat, Saiful Malook and Anso lakes in Mansehra and Tanda dam in Kohat  besides others are centre of attraction for adventure  sports enthusiasts. Likewise, River Kunhar near Naran has a great potential of developing “fish jumping out and disappearing sports in Mansehra.

To promote adventure sports, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government is working on a project to construct an International standard Sports Theme Park in Swabi district.

KP Culture and Tourism Authority Director Sajjad Hameed told  APP on Sunday that the sports theme park would be constructed on 400 kanal land at Hund in Swabi district.

He said 44 MoUs worth USD 8 billion including an agreement for establishment of the Hund Theme Park had been signed between different departments of KP government and international firms during Dubai Expo 2022.

He said Pakistan is lucky to have a unique city like Swat where its seven unique features including  Ghandhara Civilization, snow-clad mountain peaks of Falak Sair, Mankiyal and Elum, trout fish, snowfalls, water sports in river Swat, 50 lakes, forest and Swat Motorway, are attracting tourists and adventure sports lovers throughout the year.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has decided to construct four integrated tourism zones (ITZs) at Mankiyal Swat on 754 kanal land, Thandiani Abbottabad on 640 kanal, Ganol Manshera on 480 kanal and Madaklasht Lower Chitral on 540 kanal with assistance of World Bank under Khyber Pakthunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development Project (KITE) worth 70 million dollars that on completion would make Pakistan a great centre for domestic and international tourists.

Project Director KITE, Tauseef Khalid told APP on Sunday that these ITZs would be established during next three years under KITE worth 70 million dollars investment.

Two roads to ITZs Mankiyal and Thandyani would also be constructed to make it more accessible for tourists besides reducing loads of tourists on existing destinations, he said.

He said feasibility of ITZs are in advanced stage and practical work to be launched soon.

Three new ski resorts in Kaghan, Chitral and Swat would  be constructed besides a chairlift between Battakundi-Lalazar to promote adventure tourism.

KP Government has also proposed  14 kilometers long cable car project to connect Kumrat valley Dir Upper and Madaklasht Chitral Lower that would be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 32 billion.  On completion, 10 million tourists are expected to visit Malakand division annually.

Besides development of waterfalls of Sajkot, Noori, Chajjian Haripur, Jarogo Swat, Lanchar Dir, Umbrella Abbottabad, the  Government has decided to establish new camping pods at Larum Top and Shahin Bin Shahi Lower Dir, Kumrat Dir Upper, Broghal and Sorlaspur at Chitral Upper, Shangla, Samana Haripur, Sulatharn Swat and Kalam to provide quality accommodation to tourists besides exploring these scenic sites for adventure sports lovers.

In merged tribal districts, the KP Government has planned three mega projects including infrastructure development worth Rs3 billion, construction of jeepable tracks costing Rs1.5 billion and tourism events worth Rs 450 million under Accelerated Implementation Program and work on it would soon launched. 

The Government would also construct 10 camping pods in tribal districts to facilitate tourists.
