KOHAT
Provincial minister for local government rural development, and higher education Meena Khan Afridi on Thursday issued a stern warning to officials over sluggish progress in development projects across Kohat, declaring that inefficiency and misuse of public funds would not be tolerated. During a detailed district visit, he reviewed multiple ongoing schemes and set strict deadlines for their completion, emphasizing accountability and immediate visible results for citizens.
During a detailed visit to the district, the minister was accompanied by the Law Minister Aftab Alam Advocate, Special Assistant on Information Shafi Jan, DDAC Chairman Daud Afridi MPA, Local Government Secretary Zafar-ul-Islam, Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nawaz Wazir, reviewed multiple ongoing schemes. Afridi inaugurated a surveillance system at Kotal Township but expressed strong displeasure over the slow pace of work at the Women Business and Skill Development Centre. He directed the officials to ensure completion within two months, warning of action against those responsible in case of further delays. Reviewing projects under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project—including a treatment plant, drainage systems, water supply schemes and the Kohat Sports Complex, the minister termed progress unsatisfactory and set a final deadline of six months for completion. He also ordered a viable plan for the use of water to be discharged from the treatment plant. “This is public money. Not a single penny will be allowed to be misused,” Afridi declared, adding that officials must deliver results or risk losing their positions. He also directed the Tehsil Municipal Officer to visibly improve cleanliness, urban beautification and road conditions, stressing that immediate results must be seen on the ground. The minister further encouraged the citizens to directly report online complaints to him, assuring prompt and practical action on all public concerns.
Later the Special Assistant to CM Shafi Jan along with the Commissioner Kohat inspected the control room of the Surveillance System of Kotal Township and expressed his satisfaction.
