Awami National Party (ANP) Central President, Senator Aimal Wali Khan, has strongly condemned the killing of Maulana Khanzeb, the party’s Central Secretary for Ulema Affairs, in Bajaur, calling it a “tragic and shocking” incident. He said the attack occurred in an area considered a stronghold of state institutions, yet the assailants managed to escape, and CCTV footage from the scene was mysteriously unavailable.
Addressing a press conference following a party think tank meeting at Bacha Khan Markaz, Aimal Wali Khan demanded the formation of an empowered judicial commission, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, to investigate the killing. He insisted that a family member of the martyred leader be included in the commission to ensure transparency and justice.
He expressed serious concern over the continued targeting of ANP workers, noting that despite repeated attacks, the perpetrators remain untraced. “Instead of protecting our people, their security is being withdrawn,” he said, questioning whether ANP had personal enmities that justified such treatment.
The ANP leader announced plans to convene all-party conferences at both provincial and national levels. “If we are denied justice in Pakistan, we will approach the international community,” he warned.
He further stated that attempts to roll back the 18th and 25th constitutional amendments through violence and intimidation would fail. “The nation knows who is behind the wave of terrorism from Waziristan to Bajaur and what their real motives are,” he added.
Aimal Wali Khan warned that if a judicial commission is not formed, the party’s protests will continue under a single banner: *“Justice or Protest.”* He vowed that demonstrations would persist until justice is served.
