The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has declared Monday, July 27, a public holiday in Mirpur division on the recommendations of Election Commission (EC) in connection with the first phase of the 2026 general elections.
A formal notification has been issued by the Department of Services and General Administration of AJK government in this regard.
According to press release the decision for public holiday has been made in view of first phase of AJK legislative assembly election which will take place in Mirpur on July 27.
AJK EC had recommended to AJK government to announce public holiday on July 27 to provide facilities to voters on polling day and ensure election process takes place in peaceful and organized manner. AJK government while complying with this directive issued notification.
Government has made it clear the public holiday will not be of general nature but will be observed only in Mirpur division.
Final shape is being given to polling arrangements and all the necessary measures are being taken by EC for holding election in peaceful, just and transparent manner.
