Awami National Party (ANP) central spokesperson Engineer Ihsanullah Khan has expressed concern over the situation surrounding party president Senator Aimal Wali Khan and reports of possible arrests circulating overnight, saying the party would resist any attempt to violate the sanctity of homes.
According to a statement issued here from the party headquarters Bacha Khan Markaz on Monday, ANP spokesperson said that Senator Aimal Wali Khan had also expressed concern on social media that there could be a plan to arrest members of his entire family.
He said the ANP was not afraid of arrests or imprisonment and had always paid a price for its political struggle. The party, he added, was prepared to face cases, hold protests and court imprisonment if necessary.
However, he cautioned against repeating what he described as the treatment meted out to the party during British colonial rule.
The spokesperson said any violation of the sanctity of homes and the privacy of families would not be tolerated, adding that party workers would stand firm in protecting these rights.
He said the ANP’s political strength did not depend on holding government office, claiming that millions of committed supporters continued to stand by the party despite the changing political circumstances.
Mr Khan said the party remained open to political dialogue and reconciliation, but stressed that restraint and political wisdom were required from all sides. He warned that confrontation and emotional reactions would serve no one’s interests.
At a time when militancy and violence were gaining ground, he said, the ANP remained committed to the Constitution, democracy and peaceful political struggle.
ANP spokesperson urged those concerned to reconsider any approach that treated demands for constitutional and democratic rights as an offence, warning against actions that could deepen political divisions and create lasting hostility.
“We are not afraid of going to prison, but we will not compromise on the sanctity of our homes, our dignity and our families,” he said.
