Awami National Party (ANP) Provincial President Mian Iftikhar Hussain and General Secretary Hussain Shah Yousafzai have strongly condemned the target killing of Salar Munir Khan of Maneri, Swabi, calling it a deeply tragic and brutal attack on an innocent political worker.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters Bacha Khan Markaz, they said those involved in the incident do not deserve any leniency, adding that such incidents are further evidence of growing unrest in the province.
According to party officials, Munir Khan was returning home from a poetry reading organized by ANP Swabi when unidentified assailants opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
The leadership expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation, stating that the province is in the grip of severe instability.
“Why are ANP leaders and workers targeted again and again? Is it simply because we stand for the rights of our land and our people? We will never back down from our stance,” ANP leadership stated.
The ANP leadership demanded that the government and law enforcement agencies conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and punished according to the law.
The party expressed solidarity with the family of the late Salar Munir Khan, praying that Allah grants him a high place in heaven and gives patience and strength to the bereaved family.
