PESHAWAR
The provincial government has announced the formation of a new local government commission.
A notification issued by the Elections and Rural Development said that minister for local government Meena Khan Afridi will chair the new commission.
Key members include MPA Muhammad Idrees, MPA Ahmed Kundi, technocrats Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Ayesha Bano, the Secretary Law, the secretary of the local government commission, and a representative from the finance department.
The Director General will serve as the commission’s secretary.
The commission will operate under the Local Government Act 2013 and has been directed to assume its responsibilities immediately. Its mandate includes monitoring local government affairs and performance, with support from the Directorate General LGRD.
A statement issued by the provincial minister for local government Meena Khan said that the government was taking pragmatic steps to strengthen local government and ensure the transfer of powers and services to the grassroots level.
