Awami National Party (ANP) District President South Waziristan Upper, Anwar Hayat, on Monday strongly criticised the cancellation of the tender for the Sheen Wam Stadium, terming it a blow to youth development in the area.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) along with local residents, Mr Hayat said that people of Upper Waziristan were already deprived of basic facilities, including clean drinking water, healthcare services and modern 3G and 4G internet access, and were now being denied recreational opportunities as well.
He alleged that the local MPA, Asif, was involved in irregularities, claiming that contracts and jobs were being awarded on favoritism. He said the cancellation of the stadium tender had further fuelled concerns about transparency and governance in the area.
Mr Hayat also alleged that certain individuals, taking advantage of their proximity to influential political figures, had created what he described as a “market of looting” in the name of ruling party leaders in Upper Waziristan.
He claimed that complaints raised with the provincial leadership had not yielded any response, adding that public grievances were being ignored.
The ANP leader appealed to the Chief of Army Staff, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief Secretary KP to take notice of the situation and ensure corrective measures to address the concerns of the local population.
He warned that if the alleged irregularities were not addressed, he would first approach the courts and subsequently mobilise people from Upper Waziristan South to stage a protest outside the KP Assembly, holding the local MPA responsible for the situation.
