MARDAN
Commissioner Mardan Division Nisar Ahmed has said that to eradicate corruption from the society, we have to focus on the moral training of our new generation and also improve the implementation of laws and regulations and the accountability system at all levels.
He was addressing an awareness seminar on anti-corruption at Bacha Khan Medical College organized by the District Administration Mardan as the chief guest. Director NAB Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Akhtar Ali, retired Commissioner Syed Muhammad Javed, President Mardan Press Club Riaz Mayar, District Khatib Mufti Jamil and Dean Bacha Khan Medical College Dr. Amjad Ali also addressed the seminar and shed light on the different types of corruption and its negative impact on the society.
Deputy Commissioner Mardan Dr. Azmatullah Wazir and ADC Finance Syed Fahad Iftikhar were also present on the occasion. Commissioner Mardan said that the doors of corruption can be closed to a large extent through digitization, good governance and computerization of land and other records. He said that corruption can be eradicated only by working together. If we truly believed in accountability and religious injunctions in the hereafter, there would be no need for an anti-corruption system. Director NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akhtar Ali said that corruption is the root of all evils.
To eradicate corruption, NAB works on a three-pronged strategy, which includes awareness and prevention of corruption along with operations. He said that regarding prevention, we are working on improving laws and procedures so that corruption can be stopped at the right time. Syed Muhammad Javed said that this epidemic is spreading due to lack of attention to the training of the new generation.
He added that in the past, social pressure helped in preventing corruption, but now social degradation is increasing with time. The race to make money and the desire to get ahead of each other are among the reasons for the increase in corruption. Dr. Amjad Ali said that our religion teaches morality and character. He added that the Quran has forbidden us from eating each other’s property unjustly. We will have to bring changes in our educational, judicial and political systems.
The internal accountability system in our institutions has weakened. There are laws but no implementation. Parents, scholars and social pressure can play an important role in this regard. President Press Club Riaz Mayar said that corruption is not only financial but also non-compliance with office hours and personal use of government resources is corruption. He argued that abuse of authority is also corruption. He added that the country’s economy is declining due to corruption. Due to corruption, the rights of deserving people are affected.
Along with creating awareness among the public in this regard, practical steps are the need of the hour. District Khatib Mufti Jamil, while presenting his position on corruption from a religious perspective, said that the orders of honesty and justice are clear in the Holy Quran.
It is necessary to follow these teachings. At the end of the seminar the Director NAB Akhtar Ali presented a shield to Commissioner Mardan Division Nisar Ahmed.
