Bone marrow transplant unit be operational soon: Kamran Bangash

Minister for Higher Education KP Kamran Khan Bangash visited Khyber Medical University and inspected the newly constructers.
Briefing the Provincial Minister on a bone marrow transplant unit Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical University (KMU) Prof. Dr. Zia-ul-Haq said that the KMU would need Rs 100 million to make this unit fully operational.
The provincial minister was informed that it would play an active role in further improving the prevention, control and treatment of deadly diseases like thalassemia and blood cancer.
On the occasion, the provincial minister said that the government would extend full cooperation in setting up a bone marrow transplant unit.
The project should be launched as soon as possible without any delay in the wider public interest of the province, the minister directed.
“We will also try to include the bone marrow transplant in the Sehat Insaaf Card facility because its treatment is expensive and the poor cannot afford treatment cost,” he said.
The provincial minister said that doctors should specialize in bone marrow transplant as there was a shortage of bone marrow specialists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government will fully cooperate in this regard.
The provincial minister expressed satisfaction over the administrative matters in KMU.
