PESHAWAR
The Basic Pay Service (BPS) teaching faculty working in different public sector universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration outside the Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
The representatives urged the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to devise a permanent promotion and scale up-gradation policy in government run-universities for the BPS faculty.
A group of BPS teachers have announced their concerned and threatens a massive protest demonstration outside theHEC office in Islamabad if their longstanding demands were not met effectively.
In a statement, Arif Khan, member of University of Peshawar told reporters that BPS faculty which is comprised of teachers, professors and associate professors working in different public sector universities of the province were deprived of a permanent service structure and promotion policy like other government servants.
He said that the faculty promotion in the government universities is subject to vice-chancellor approval, adding the faculty members have recorded their protests across the province and demanded of the HEC to devise a permanent mechanism or a policy for their promotions to next grades.
A member of the same faculty from Islamia College University Dr Fazal Waheed informed that a number of PhDs scholars working in different universities have been kept deprived from the promotions.
The representatives threatens that teachers would stage a protest demonstration outside the HEC office in Islamabad after the federal government withdraw section 144, adding that the teachers have decided to record their protest across the province to press the commission to accept their longstanding demands.
The protesters have carried placards in their hands also chanted slogans against the ‘discriminatory’ commission policy and demanded promotion policy in the government run universities.
They maintained that the HEC was making lame excuses and applying various delaying tactics to introduce a permanent policy for their up gradation.
They added that HEC should accept their genuine demands. “BPS university teachers holding PhD degree should be given equal right to promotion on the basis of qualification, experience and other conditions required by TS faculty,” they demanded.
