The projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) are mainly related to infrastructure development in the transport, energy, mining, IT and communications sector but also cover industrial parks, Special Economic Zones (SEZ), tourism and urban development. Many of the BRI branded projects have already been started before 2013 but gained momentum under the Initiative. Listed and shown below are projects that have a direct or indirect relation to the Belt and Road Initiative. This may include projects, which are financed by BRI funding mechanisms or are officially branded under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The listed projects are in preparation, under construction, in operation or were initiated under BRI but later have been discontinued. China Pakistan Economic Corridor is hope of better region of the future with peace, development and growth of economy. Cooperation with China under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has transformed Pakistan’s economic landscape. In September last year, Pakistan and China established a joint working group on information technology at the 10th Joint Cooperation Committee meeting of the CPEC. The construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship BRI project is transformational for his entire country. Besides the Gwadar Port, which has become the crown jewel of the CPEC, the eco-friendly Orange Line metro train in Lahore, the first of its kind in Pakistan, which officially opened for traffic in October 2020 are also laudable achievements. In Lahore, the second-largest city in Pakistan, people have this very efficient, very modern and affordable transport system. BRI projects have benefited the Pakistani people through job creation, improving livelihoods, eradicating poverty and upgrading remote areas. Infrastructure development and energy upgrades have helped change the economic, social and industrial landscape of Pakistan. So far, more than 70,000 jobs have been created thanks to BRI cooperation and according to government’s forecast, another half a million direct and indirect jobs will be created in the next five to seven years.
All these philosophies and dimensions of BRI directly contribute to the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The 17 SDGs were adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which include no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, and others.
Thanks to BRI projects, frequent power outages in peak season are now a thing of the past. Pakistan is seeking more cooperation with China on industry modernization and information technology (IT) since Pakistan began working on its special technology zones.
