The Cantonment Board Peshawar on Wednesday organised a rally to mark Youm-i-Istehsal and express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The rally, led by Cantonment Executive Officer Chaudhry Babar Hussain, was attended by board officials and employees, teachers and students from cantonment educational institutions, doctors and paramedical staff of the Cantonment General Hospital, as well as a large number of residents.
Participants carried banners and placards expressing solidarity with Kashmiris, condemning what they described as Indian actions in the region and supporting the right to self-determination.
A one-minute silence was observed in memory of those who had lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir, while special prayers were offered for peace in the region, Pakistan’s security and the unity of the Muslim world.
According to the organisers, participants urged the international community to take notice of alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and called for the implementation of United Nations resolutions on the Kashmir dispute.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Hussain said he belonged to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed his solidarity with the people of Kashmir. He said Pakistan would continue extending moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris, adding that India’s Aug 5, 2019, decision to revoke the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir was a violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.
The Cantonment Board also launched a public awareness campaign in connection with Youm-i-Istehsal. As part of the campaign, banners, flexes and other awareness material were displayed at various locations in the city to highlight the Kashmir issue and express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The rally concluded with participants reaffirming their support for the people of Kashmir and their right to self-determination.
