Aimed to boost agricultural and to enhance self-sufficiency of growers in the merged districts, the Department of Agriculture (Extension), District Khyber, under the farmer-friendly policies of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP)distributed fruits and olive sapling in a ceremony organized at Jamrud tehsil office last day.
Besides Additional Secretary agriculture Dil Nawaz Wazir, Director General Agriculture KP Muhammad Naveed, Regional Director, seed certification Inayatullah Khan, Assistant Commissioner, Jamrud Khayyam Nasir, District Director Agriculture (extension) Zia-ul- Islam Dawar along with other officials, the event witnessed the participation of local political representatives, a large number of farmers and landowners from across the district.
During the ceremony, high-quality and certified saplings of guava, orange), apricot, pear, and olive were distributed.
Addressing on the occasion Additional Secretary agriculture Dil Nawaz Wazir said that the provincial government was continuing practical steps to ensure farmers’ prosperity and agricultural self-sufficiency.
The agriculture sector in the merged districts is being modernized through the provision of quality seeds and plants, technical guidance, and the introduction of advanced farming techniques, he added. Director General Agriculture Muhammad Naveed and District Director Zia-ul-Salam Dawar also highlighted ongoing departmental schemes and said all available resources were being utilized in district Khyber to achieve sustainable economic stability for the farming community.
The Chief Minister’s representative Shafiq Afridi said the government was taking comprehensive measures to address farmers’ problems and assured continued cooperation to overcome existing obstacles.
Speakers stressed that tree plantation not only provides valuable fruit but also serves as a lasting charity and an environmentally friendly investment for future generations.
According to the Agriculture Department, farmers interested in establishing orchards will be required to submit applications to the relevant offices. This will be followed by detailed land inspections, preparation of feasibility reports, and formal approval before plantations are carried out at suitable sites.
