CISNR (UET Peshawar) and PEDO sign MoU

The Center for Intelligent Systems and Network Research (CISNR), UET Peshawar and the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here today.
The MoU was signed by the Vice Chancellor, UET Peshawar Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain and Mr. Muhammad Naeem Khan, CEO PEDO in presence of senior officials. Dr. Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah, Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Planning & Development, Energy & Power and Minerals Development was the chief guest on the occasion.
The Purpose of MoU is to work jointly in five key areas including implementation of smart metering and billing in Chitral region, implementation of early warning, safe and security system for all the remote micro-hydro power plants of PEDO, implementation of framework of KP NEECA, implementation of predictive maintenance system on all the power plants of PEDO and implementation of feasibility of utilization of unused electricity in remote regions by PEDO.
Dr. Sarfaraz Ali Shah said, education institutions play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of developed countries, and it is encouraging to see that UET Peshawar is using latest technologies for practically solving real life issues through academic-industry linkages.
He appreciated the role of CISNR in using AI for multiple fields including energy management, flood recovery and safe city, addressing various SDGs in particular categories. He expressed his satisfaction over the progress of CISNR’s initiatives.
He also stressed over exploiting precious gems and minerals of Pakistan which are misused by neighboring countries with their brands in the international market.
He said, the untapped mineral resources in KP especially erstwhile FATA if exploited on scientific basis can bring lot of foreign exchange for the country. Mr. M. Naeem Khan, CEO PEDO while appreciating the efforts of CISNR said, this collaboration will help in solving technical barriers in metering and billing mechanisms on PEDO’s power plants.
Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan, Director CISNR briefed the audience about initiatives taken by CISNR for digitization which have proved successful in producing efficient and transparent mechanism for metering data collection through Electrocure-Meterless smart metering concept to provide low-cost smart metering for efficient low-carbon smart metering and reduction of administrative, technical and commercial losses.
He also gave a detailed presentation on CISNR’s joint initiatives with national and International agencies in the fields of water supply, early warning systems for flood and earthquake, safe city and infrastructural development.
Prof. Dr. Sahar Noor, Dean Faculty of Mechanical, Chemical and Industrial Engineering, Prof. Dr. Syed Waqar Shah, Chairman Electrical Engineering, Dr. Khizar Azam Khan, Registrar UET Peshawar, Dr. Shamaila Farooq, Director Media UET Peshawar, senior officials of UET Peshawar and PEDO were also present on the occasion.
