City markets get CCTV cameras as harassment cases rise

PESHAWAR: Taking notice of reported incidents of harassment of women, Capital City Police (CCP) has ordered installation of security cameras in city areas that houses number of markets dealing women-related accessories, police sources said.
They said that police have received number of complaints in Khan Razaq, Shah Qabol and Kotwali police stations about teasing of women visitors by character
less boys in Kochi Bazars, Chowk Shahbaz, Chowk Nasir Khan, Asia Gate, Sarki Gate and other adjacent and congested localities.
Following these complaints, SSP Operations Abbas Majeed Marwat ordered immediate installation of CCTV cameras and establishment of a monitoring cell to
have vigilance of suspected activities in these markets, the sources said adding that the police official also visited the markets and asked the concerned personals to ensure effective monitoring in the area.SSP also asked members of the public liaison committee, elders and civil society for building cooperation with police against prevention of such activities.
He ordered the concerned SHOs to trace and arrest those involved in teasing women belonging to respectable families and sought report in this regard.
SSP said that provision of safety and protection to citizens was foremost duty of police and negligence at any level would not be tolerated.
