PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on Wednesday said that Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur is ‘committed to achieving lasting peace’ in Kurram district.
In a meeting with local leaders and officials, he stated that the Chief Minister had formed a high-level committee to ensure sustainable peace in the region. The committee includes key figures such as Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam, the Chief Secretary, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and members of law enforcement agencies.
Mr Saif highlighted the importance of collaboration between the local population and the government in achieving peace. He stressed that lasting peace is impossible without the support of the community. He also underscored that the real enemy is not war itself, but the hatred that fuels conflict, and emphasized the need to remove this hatred and foster love and unity. He pointed out that the interests of a few disruptive elements drive the unrest in Kurram and called for their identification and prosecution.
He further discussed the Murree Agreement as a key document for peace in Kurram and its implementation as critical for stability.
Saif mentioned efforts to open the national highway, demolish forts, evacuate trapped people, and even consider an air service from Peshawar to Parachinar. He urged that the resolution of Kurram’s issues is not just vital for the local population but for Pakistan as a whole.
