Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday visited the registration centre for Tirah displaced persons in Bara, a tehsil of tribal district Khyber.
The chief executive of the province expressed solidarity with the affected communities and directed officials concerned to address their issues promptly.
In a statement, CM Afridi said the provincial government would ensure all possible facilities for the displaced, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the people of the tribal districts in defending the country’s borders for 70 years without receiving salaries.
He criticized the previous government’s policies, stating that the state had failed to fulfill its promises to the tribal people and that terrorists were being resettled in the area despite warnings, leading to forced displacement of locals.
“This failed policy will not succeed now as it failed in the past,” CM Afridi said, emphasizing that the provincial government was not consulted on the two-month deadline for the displaced to return.
He accused opponents of targeting him for being the first tribal chief minister and spreading negative propaganda since his nomination.
“We will fight within constitutional boundaries till the end,” he said, urging people to prioritize education over arms. The CM vowed to stand by his people, saying, “I am standing rock-solid with my nation.”
