RAWALPINDI : Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday directed the commanders and intelligence outfits to further intensify the combing and targeted operations with full vigour to eliminate terrorists and sleeper cells.INP reported.
The directive was issued by the COAS while presiding over Corps Commanders’ Conference held here at the General Headquarters. The conference was attended by all Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers.
The COAS also directed commanders to provide all the necessary assistance to provincial law enforcement agencies in their capacity building through training and planning so as to integrate them effectively in counter terrorism operations.
According to the ISPR, the forum expressed its deepest sympathies with aggrieved families and injured of the Quetta blast.
Participants of the conference were given detailed briefings on ongoing military operations and overall external and internal security situation in the country with particular reference to counter-terrorism domain.
The COAS said the cowardly terror attack on Pakistan’s judiciary, carried out in a hospital was an attempt to undermine the successes of operation Zarb-e-Azb.
By adopting a holistic approach, its valiant armed forces would not allow anyone to reverse the gains against terrorism, he vowed.
A day after Quetta witnessed tragic deaths of tens of lawyers who became victims of a suicide attack, army chief General Raheel Sharif said the cowardly act against the country’s judiciary by the terrorists was carried out to undermine the success of operation of Zarb-e-Azb.
On Monday, at least 70 people, nearly half of them lawyers, were killed and more than a hundred wounded in a suicide attack targeting mourners gathered at a state-run hospital in Balochistan’s capital city Quetta.
While presiding over the Corps Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, Gen Raheel said that the army will adopt a ‘whole nation approach’ to ensure that no one reverses the gains against terrorism, a statement issued by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said.
