General Nicholson calls on army chief

Commander US Forces in Afghanistan General John W. Nicholson called on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi on Monday, military media wing said.
According to ISPR press release, the Army Chief appreciated the role of erstwhile International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and presently Resolute Support Mission (RSM) Force for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
He acknowledged continuous support of the Mission to enable Afghan National Security Forces for enhancing the capacity and capability to independently tackle security challenges in Afghanistan.
Qamar Bajwa emphasized requirement of Pak-Afghan bilateral border security mechanism for which the Mission can play an important role.
Later, General John Nicholson and General Qamar Javed Bajwa jointly visited Miranshah and North Waziristan Agency.
Visiting US General was briefed on Operation Zarb-e-Azb and progress on the socio-economic activities, including return of TDPs.
Visitors were taken to Miranshah bazaar where they saw the development work being undertaken by Pakistan Army.
The visiting dignitary acknowledged the requirement of bilateral border security coordination.
According to ISPR, RSM commander acknowledged the need for cooperation at the border.
He said that Resolute Support Mission of US in Afghanistan could play a role in the issue, according to the media cell of Pakistan Army.
The army chief also appreciated role of US troops in Afghanistan to restore peace and mainstream the hardliners. The US General was briefed over social and development projects underway in North Waziristan and repatriation of Independently Displaced Persons (IDP).
General Nicholson visited Miranshah and reviewed projects underway there in supervision of Pakistan Army.
