In a proactive move to enhance disaster management and tackle seasonal challenges, the Commissioner of Peshawar issued directives on Friday for all Deputy Commissioners to establish control rooms in their respective offices.
According to a statement, the move aimed at ensuring effective communication and coordination in addressing natural disasters, including air pollution and fog, during the upcoming winter season.
The statement said that the initiative was part of the district’s broader effort to strengthen preparedness and mitigate the impact of climate-related hazards.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Mehsud to discuss strategies for tackling natural disasters and implementing preventive measures.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of all five districts, along with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief).
The Commissioner was briefed in detail about the potential natural disasters expected during the winter months and the precautionary steps that need to be taken.
In response, he ordered immediate contact with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for the allocation of funds to support preparedness efforts.
During the meeting, Riaz Khan Mehsud emphasized the importance of making timely preparations in line with the seasonal weather conditions. He called for weekly reports to monitor progress and urged all relevant institutions to strengthen their communication and coordination efforts. This, he said, would ensure that natural disasters are dealt with promptly and effectively, minimizing the damage caused.
The decisions aim to improve collaboration between various agencies and ensure that Peshawar Division is better equipped to face the challenges posed by winter, including fog, air pollution, and natural disasters.
