After Karachi, the Conjunctivitis viral infection reached Peshawar as there are 5 to 6 conjunctivitis patients in every 20 to 25 people who come to the hospitals for eye complaints, Ophthalmologist Jinnah Medical College Peshawar said here Sunday.
Conjunctivitis is a self-healing infection, antibiotics etc. are not beneficial, Dr. Mahfuz Hussain said, adding, “The affected people should wash their eyes with cold and fresh water and applying ice packs will reduce the pain.”
If the affected person’s eyes start to squint, understand that along with conjunctivitis infection, germs have also come, antibiotics can help, Dr. Mahfuz Hussain said.
The virus can be transmitted from one person to another person even by shaking hands and sitting close to infected people, Dr. Mahfouz Hussain said.
Wash your hands frequently and prefer to clean your eyes with tissue instead of hands and cloth, Dr. Mahfouz Hussain added.
Do not send affected children to school so that other children are protected from the virus, Dr. Mahfouz Hussain advised.
