Court orders K-Electric (KE) to pay Rs 1.35 crore in compensation to the bereaved family of a citizen

KARACHI
Senior Civil Judge City Court has ordered K-Electric to pay compensation of Rs 1 crore 35 lac to bereaved family of a citizen who was electrocuted to death due to heavy rainfall in the city.
The counsel for the petitioner said during the hearing of the case the citizen Sheikh Saad Ahmed was electrocuted to death due to heavy rain in 2019. K-Electric did not take any action on the complaint by the residents of area regarding electric current in the pole.
K-Electric failed in conducting proper look after of electric system and installations.
Counsel for the K-Electric told the court current was generated due to cable of private generator. K-Electric installations are completely safe.
The deceased citizen put his life into risk near hazardous place.
The court remarked extraordinary responsibility lies with power provider for safety of people.
K-Electric cannot be absolved from its responsibility due to presence of cables of other institutions.
The presence of live electrical current on public utility poles was deemed direct evidence of negligence.
Securing the electricity transmission system and public places is extraordinary responsibility K-Electric.
The attempt to save life of child cannot be considered complete negligence. . Attempting to save a human life is legally viewed with leniency and could not be considered negligence on the victim’s part.
K-Electric should pay Rs 1.35 crore in compensation to the heirs of the deceased within a maximum period of 90 days.
