ISLAMABAD
Accountability Court (AC) Islamabad has reserved judgment on bail after arrest plea of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in corruption in Jhelum development projects case .
The bail after arrest plea came up for hearing in AC Islamabad led by judge Nasir Javed Rana Monday.
Defence counsel Amir Abbas said there is case in Supreme Court. It is busy day. NAB prosecutor should give arguments on the bail plea of Fawad Chaudhry just now. NAB prosecutor said case against Fawad Chaudhry is in inquiry stage. Reference has not been dismissed so far. Record of reference has been sought from investigation officer. It is on the way.
Defence counsel Amir Abbas said NAB is not authorized to arrest any one at inquiry stage. It was government of PDM and Fawad Chaudhry was arrested. Fawas Chaudhry is member of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). He remained former federal minister. Fawad Chaudhry was subjected to political victimization by using NAB.
The physical remand of Fawad Chaudhry was taken for 29 days which is historical.
Defence counsel said Fawad Chaudhry was elected as Member of National Assembly (MNA) from Jhelum in 2018.
NAB alleged that Fawad Chaudhry used his influence in the construction of road. Fawad was minister of information and science and technology and he had nothing to do with development projects. Bring to fore one sentence from report where Fawad Chaudhry has used his influence.
Defence Counsel Faisal Chaudhry said Fawad is charged with not extending cooperation. He is already in jail then how he cannot cooperate. I am brother of Fawad Chaudhry and case has been registered against me. All the assets and bank accounts of Fawad Chaudhry are declared.
He requested the court to accept bail plea of Fawad Chaudhry.
NAB prosecutor Usman Masood argued Fawad Chaudhry struck deal with the contractor that contract would be awarded to him. He adopted illegal way to award contract to contractor. The clauses framed against him are not bailable. There is 14 years imprisonment against these clauses. Even Supreme Court has not approved bail regarding clauses against him. It is simple case Fawad Chaudhry struck deal with the contractor and took bribe.
NAB Prosecutor Usman Masood requested the court to dismiss bail plea of Fawad Chaudhry.
