A court in Faisalabad on Saturday sentenced an accused, Majid Zia, to 17 months imprisonment for sexual harassment. The additional sessions judge also imposed a fine of Rs1.5 million on the convict in addition to the prison sentence. The case was registered by the FIA’s Cyber Crime Circle and action was taken against the convict under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. According to the FIA spokesperson, Majid had shared objectionable photos of a woman on social media in 2022. A day earlier, a medical student who was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and filmed by the family of an industrialist submitted a plea for action against two women over what she called ‘character assassination’ and harassment on social media.
