Deputy Commissioner Kohat Muhammad Nawaz Wazir ordered a zero-tolerance crackdown against the profiteers, hoarders and price manipulators during the holy month of Ramadan, warning that violators would face heavy fines and jail time.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Ramadan preparedness, the Deputy Commissioner said no leniency would be shown to those involved in hoarding, artificial shortages or self-imposed price hikes. Senior officials from the district administration, Kohat police, health department, food department, Halal Food Authority, PESCO, gas authorities and other relevant departments attended the meeting.
Wazir directed the authorities to launch a mega operation against hoarders before the start of Ramadan and stressed that no political pressure or recommendations would be entertained. He ordered the establishment of monitoring desks, price-checking teams and complaint cells in all major markets to remain operational throughout the month.
“The district administration’s top priority is to provide maximum relief to the public during Ramadan,” he said, adding that uninterrupted gas and electricity supply during Sehri and Iftar hours would be ensured. He also announced the establishment of Ramadan Dastarkhwans at various locations to support the underprivileged.
The Deputy Commissioner further warned that strict legal action would be taken against traders violating official price lists, while negligence by responsible officers would not be tolerated.
He directed all the departments to remain active in the field, stating that public exploitation during Ramadan would not be accepted under any circumstances.
