Says Beijing ready to shift chip manufacturing plant to Pakistan
ISLAMABAD
President Dr Arif Alvi has underlined the need for promoting IT related education to take the country forward on the path of development.
Addressing the 14th convocation of Sarhad University of Science and Technology on Monday, the president said that there are great prospects of employment in this field. He pointed out that only in the field of cybersecurity, the world would require about 80 million people by 2030.
The president also called for a paradigm shift in the education sector, saying online education should be promoted in order to substantially produce the IT skilled manpower. Expressing satisfaction over the online education policy of Higher Education Commission, he said this will also make education inexpensive.
President Alvi said the Chinese side during the visit of the prime minister to Beijing expressed interest to shift the chip manufacturing plant to Pakistan in a matter of one year. Given the demand in the IT sector, he said, “We have to produce the manpower on a fast track basis.”
Advising the youth to become achievers, the president said they should also remain on the guard and not allow destabilisation of the country. He said Pakistan has successfully waged a war against terrorism.
He said, “We also open heartedly hosted millions of Afghan refugees for forty years. He said there is no precedent of such hospitality in the world and our people should be proud of it.”
Separately, addressing a function pertaining to the performance of the Federal Tax Ombudsman on Monday, President Alvi has said that digitisation of institutions can save important data and documents of the country.
He said use of technology is vital to curb the menace of corruption from the society.
The president said block-chain technology can be used for tracking transactions, reducing corruption and increasing transparency in public and private sectors. He said a systemic and inclusive approach is needed to fully benefit from the transformative potential of block-chain technology. He congratulated FBR for providing relief of 8.5 billion rupees to the people.
Lauding the role of FTO for providing Rs8.5 billion relief to the taxpayers last year, the president stressed the need for better connection between the people and the government institutions. He viewed that cordial working relations between the FTO and tax institutions would also pave the way for a conducive environment for the taxpayers.
He also asked the FTO to enhance its outreach to make the maximum number of taxpayers know the role of the organization who should consider it their own desk. He said through various measures, the FTO is also bringing about the ease of doing business and also advised the business community to seek reduction in taxes instead of avoiding documentation of the economy.
