Like elsewhere in the country, the scheme of supply of free wheat flour to the beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) began in the district on Thursday.
Last day Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), relief Nauman Ali Shah, ADC, finance Hasseb-ur-Rehman along with Assistant Commissioners of all the three tehsils i.e. Landi Kotal,Jamrud and Bara visited the distribution points and observed the process.
Under the special Ramadan relief package almost 0.168900 million deserving families will get three begs (10 Kg) free flour in all three subdivisions of district Khyber.
Prior to it,briefing the media, Deputy Commissioner, Khyber Abdunasir said that the government had decided to provide free food packages instead of setting up Sasta Bazaar and other relief in Ramadan.
Approximately 164 points had been set up across the district to facilitate the locals, he added.
It was the joint initiative of the Federal and Provincial governments aimed to reduce difficulties faced by the lower and middle classes during the holy month of Ramadan.
To avoid any inconvenience, people have been asked to check their eligibility by sending through SMS their CNIC number to 8171, the helpline of BISP as the data was linked to it, he remarked.
The district administrative officer directed the concerned staff to adopt all necessary steps to avoid long queues of beneficiaries at the distribution points.
According to information a total of 164 distribution points had been established in three tehsils and 384 metric ton quota per day of flour has been reserved for Khyber.
It is to be stated here that the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will distribute free flour to 5.75 million families across the province.
Meanwhile, since first day of Ramadan, the local administration of Landi Kotal, Jamrud and Bara have started arranging Iftari facility for almost 100 of believers each in the tehsils with the purpose to assist the poor and strangers in the holy month, DC informed.
