DLP Report
PESHAWAR
Provincial minister for housing Dr. Amjad Ali has welcomed the provincial cabinet’s decision to divide Swat District into two separate districts and extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Swat.
He stated that the division of Swat into Swat and Upper Swat was a long-standing demand of the local people, which has now been fulfilled by the provincial government under the leadership of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi.
In a video message Dr. Amjad Ali has said that the population of Swat District has exceeded 2.7 million. As a result, residents of Upper Swat were compelled to travel to Mingora for government matters and basic services, causing considerable inconvenience to the public. The increasing population had also placed immense pressure on hospitals and other government institutions in Mingora.
He said that this landmark decision of the provincial cabinet will ensure the provision of all government services and facilities to the people of Upper Swat at their doorstep. This will not only ease public hardships but will also strengthen and streamline the administrative system.
The provincial minister added that elected members from Swat made consistent and dedicated efforts for the division of the district. To address ambiguities related to the process, the cabinet had constituted a committee comprising members of the provincial assembly and concerned government officers, which presented its comprehensive report to the cabinet.
Dr. Amjad Ali further stated that, in light of the opinions and recommendations of public representatives, it was decided to keep Tehsil Charbagh as part of Swat. He added that additional government offices will be established at Nal for Upper Swat, while the existing offices in Matta will continue to provide government services from their current locations.
He expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and members of the provincial cabinet, saying that this decision will serve as a major milestone in the development of Swat and the provision of improved public services to its people
