PESHAWAR: After emergence of forward block in Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) in district council Peshawar, the cracks has started surfacing in the party members following return of district member Younis Zaheer from London.
Younis Zaheer was earlier the favourite candidate for the office of district Nazim Peshawar as several district members of PTI dissident group has started contacts with each others to support the latter for the office of District Nazim Peshawar.
Well informed sources told Media that following the return of district member Younis Zaheer from London, several members of PTI dissident group has started contacts with each others to give tough time to the incumbent district Nazim Arbab Asim Khan and created room for Zaheer to become the District Nazim Peshawar.
The sources said several district members of PTI dissident group held a meeting under the chairmanship of a PTI lawmaker in this connection and criticized the performance of district Nazim Arbab Asim Khan.
The sources said districts members of PTI dissident group are again uniting against the incompetent district nazim who are making efforts to create room for another aspirant for the office of Younis Zaheer to become the district nazim of Peshawar.
Opposition leaders and district members in Peshawar District Council Sher Farzand and Safdar Baghi told Media that the opposition was closely watching the situation emerged after the arrival of Younis Zaheer.
At present the total strength of district members is 138 including 43 members of the oppositions, and at least 85 votes are required for motion of no confidence against the district Nazim, they said.
They said the opposition would either move no confidence motion against the sitting district nazim or would ask him to prove his majority in the district council in case the DN lost majority of the house.
They said that district Nazim Peshawar has failed to address the problem of people during last one and half years.
They said people of Peshawar are being forced to drink contaminated water while problems of disposal of waste, street lights, aggravating traffic issues and poor quality of parks have exposed the tall claims of district government.
The leakages in supply of drinking water pipelines especially in urban and interior city are very serious issue and the district government has yet to address it.
Safdar Baghi demanded special funds for Nusrat Diyar Hospital at Notia Jadid in Peshawar.
