The Dosti Peshawar Women Literature Festival, 1st Edition came to a triumphant closing today the 9th of November 2023. This landmark
festival started from the 6th of November until the 10th of November, 2023, gathering female authors, literature enthusiasts, thought
leaders and poets from the whole Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and also hosted few from Punjab. There has been an immense participation of students, attending these sessions from time to time with great enthusiasm.
Registration desks have been actively registering the guests and students attending the festival.
An important feature of the day was a celebration of Iqbal Day in Catering Hall, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University where several authors and poetesses took place and paid tribute to the poetry of the Allama Iqbal, philosophy and the wonderful messages of unity to our Nation.
The closing ceremony was held at the Serena Hotel Peshawar, Dr. Zarmina Baloch, Dr. Toheeda Begum from SBBWUP, welcomed the guest for the closing of the Peshawar women festival. The opening remarks were given by the Chairperson, BOD Ms Zubaida Khatoon (KK). She emphasized on importance of the role of civil society organizations in empowering women.
The Chief Guest Caretaker Minister for Women Empowerment and Development Justice Irshad Qaisar, she was pleased to see women from literary field coming out from different parts of the country and participating in the festival. She also welcomed any assistance required by women in this field. the guest of honor of the event Dr. Syed Hussain Shahhed Soherwordi paid a tribute to empowered women he also shed light on the critical need of empowering women and that our religion extremely supportive towards women and grants them rights in every aspect of life.
A documentary video about the festival was displayed to the guests and audience, which portrayed all the events of the festival. Impact of storytelling was depicted in a form of an act by the students of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Department of English.
A success story was shared by Ms Fareeda Sultana, where she shared her experiences and life journey. Prof. Next, a presentation on Identified Challenges Faced by Afghan Displaced Women was presented by Ms. Daimeen Gul. The worthy vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmed
(T.I) rendered her vote of thanks to the organizers and the sponsors of the festival. She concluded the festival with appreciating the
enriching discussions, diverse perspectives and that SBBWU will in future continue celebrating women’s contribution to the literature in our society.
Program lead Dr Hamida Bibi, in the end wrapped up the event by stating that she along with her dedicated team together made this festival festival successful.
The program came to an end with the Shields and awards distribution among the young competent women belonged to under privileged areas and in exceptional circumstances.
