PESHAWAR: The “Drug Free Peshawar” campaign is set to launch in mid-October, aiming to rehabilitate around 2,000 drug addicts in Peshawar. The drive led by Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud will provide four months of modern treatment at selected private rehabilitation centers, funded by the provincial government. Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud while chairing a special meeting on the campaign emphasized that the best treatment will be prioritized, with no compromises. To ensure this, rehabilitation centers will be strictly monitored through surprise visits, regular checks by officials, including district administration, CCTV surveillance, he said and added that continuous monitoring of treatment and facilities will be carried out and no compromise will be held on the rehabilitation of the addicted persons. Commissioner Riaz Khan Mahsud emphasised the campaign’s goal of making Peshawar a drug-free city. “We are committed to eradicating drug addiction and begging from our streets, and providing former beggars with the skills they need to become useful citizens,” he said. In a statement issued here stated that around 2000 drug addicts on the streets of Peshawar will be taken into custody and transferred to rehabilitation centers where they will be given the best and modern treatment for four months and they will be made useful citizens of the society.
