Nawaz election petition in NA-15 Mansehra
CEC tells Nawaz’s lawyer ‘cannot continue stay indefinitely’, asks to prepare for arguments for tomorrow’s hearing
ISLAMABAD
Election Commission (EC) while directing all respondents to give final argument today in connection with election petition filed by Nawaz Sharif in NA-15 Mansehra has adjourned the hearing.
Barrister Jahangir Jadoon, counsel for Nawaz Sharif appeared before EC in election petition related to NA-15 Mansehra Monday.
Babar Awan counsel for Gustasab Khan appeared before EC.
Jahangir Jadoon said the report of Returning Officer (RO) has not been provided so far to us. We cannot give arguments without reading RO report.
Counsel Babar Awan said RO report has been received by all. Gustasab Khan won the election with the lead of 25000 votes. As per law if difference is of 25000 then recounting cannot be done. Due to order of EC the notification of success of Gustasab Khan stands suspended.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) said we abolish stay and give more time for arguments. We cannot prolong stay only for the sake of arguments. EC is of the view the stay should be abolished as soon as possible.
CEC has directed Jahangir Jadoon to give arguments today.
The hearing of the case was adjourned for a while.
EC directed all the respondents to provide documents on resumption of hearing of the election petition.
The CEC said we will issue interim order today on the petition seeking abolition of stay. Stay cannot be deferred for indefinite period. The case is being adjourned repeatedly. We give decision on stay.
The CEC while moving to Jahangir Jadoon said some time you come late and some time it is said record has not been provided.
Counsel Jahangir Jadoon said EC should give us last chance to give final arguments. The result of 125 polling stations has not been included in form 47.
The CEC said the RO has rejected the claim in the report on not including the votes of 125 polling stations in form -47.
Counsel Babar Awan said no one from Nawaz Sharif side went to RO office while compiling form 47. EC adjourned the hearing of NA-15 Mansehra case till Tuesday. The EC has directed all respondents to give arguments on Tuesday.
