On issue of deployment of Pakistan Army at polling stations in general elections, the Election Commission (EC) wrote a letter to Ministry of Interior and sought a comprehensive report from the Ministry of Interior regarding security.
Election Commission (EC) has written in a letter to Ministry of Interior that Ministry of Interior should furnish a report on the availability of security personnel from the four provinces and Chief Commissioner Islamabad by November 27. The overall shortage of security personnel in the provinces? And a backup plan should also be given.
Election Commission (EC) directed the Interior Ministry to take the details of four chief secretaries and the security personnel from Chief Commissioner Islamabad and submit them.
According to sources, it is further stated in letter that Federation and four provinces are obliged to support Election Commission (EC) under Constitution.
Election Commission (EC) is taking all constitutional and legal steps for fair and transparent elections. It is the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies to improve the law and order situation in all the constituencies.
Election Commission (EC) is making foolproof security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident on polling day.
According to letter, Election Commission (EC) has decided to deploy the Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies due to the shortage of police personnel at the polling stations.
A report should be given on the availability of police personnel on polling day in Islamabad and the four provinces.
Election Commission (EC) has also been directed to inform in writing about the shortage of personnel in the provinces.
