PESHAWAR
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday organized a special awareness program for students in the department of Journalism and Mass Communication University of Peshawar.
According to a statement issued by the provincial office of the ECP, the special awareness event was conducted to create awareness among the students about the electoral process and increase the turnout in the upcoming general elections in the country.
The faculty members of the department Dr Bakht Zaman, Assistant Professor Ali Imran, Dr Gul Wahab were also present on the occasion.
On behalf of the Election Commission, Director Zulfikar Ahmed and spokesperson of Provincial Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Ahmed gave a detailed briefing to the students about the election process.
The students were informed that the Election Commission of Pakistan is publishing the final election lists across the country tomorrow.
Mr Sohail maintained that registration of new names in the lists, transfer of votes and correctness of data will be completed before the schedule for the general election is announced.
“All District Election Commissioners will be available in their offices during office hours for the convenience of the public,” he added and said that voters can verify their vote by sending their National Identity Card to 8300.
He said that ECP has been conducting a special awareness campaign for students in various educational institutions throughout the province to create awareness about the electoral process and students can play their role as responsible and active citizens in all upcoming elections.
Various questions were asked by the students on this occasion. On behalf of the chairman of the department, Dr Bakht Zaman thanked the Election Commission for organizing a special session in the journalism department to increase the election process and turnout.
Later, the Election Commission’s booklet A Pictorial Journey of Special Initiatives of ECP was presented to the Chairman.
