ISLAMABAD
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has withheld electoral symbol of Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP).
As per media reports the electoral symbol has been withheld for not holding intra party elections and not filing Annual Financial Statement (AFS).
A five members commission under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) heard the case. However no representative from side of IPP appeared before ECP.
During the hearing of the case DG Political Finance while giving briefing to ECP told IPP is not abiding by its constitution and election act.
Under party constitution it is compulsory that intra party election of IPP should be held after every four years. IPPs intra party elections to be held in January 2026 were not held.
He further told that IPP is not filing details of annual funds and expenses. Therefore, election symbol of IPP has been withheld. He recommended for delisting IPP.
CEC inquired was notice given to IPP.
Upon it DG Political Finance told notice has been issued.
Later the Election Commission adjourned the hearing of the case till March 26.
