Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour Faisal Khan Tarkai visited the Employees Social Security Institution (ESSI) Head Office here, where he reviewed various departments of the institution.
The Minister inspected the Polyclinic Hospital’s OPD, laboratory, and other medical sections, and examined the facilities being provided in detail.
Following the visit, Minister Faisal Khan Tarkai chaired a high-level meeting attended by Secretary Labour / ESSI Commissioner Mian Adil Iqbal, Vice Commissioner Waseem Ahmad Khan, Director Medical, and other relevant officers.
During the meeting, the ESSI Secretary gave a detailed briefing on the institution’s establishment, structure, functions, healthcare infrastructure, revenue sources, and expenditures.
The minister was informed that ESSI was established in 1970 and is operating on a self-sustained basis under the 2021 Act.
Contributions amounting to 6% of employees’ wages from registered organizations serve as the institution’s primary source of income.
Through one hospital, a polyclinic, and 39 medical units, ESSI provides free treatment and medicines to workers and their families.
It was further explained that workers receive 75% to 100% of their salaries in case of illness, full salary for 12 weeks in case of maternity, a stipend for 180 days in the event of a workplace injury, and pensions or gratuity in case of disability or death.
The institution has introduced LMIS and HMIS as part of its digitalization efforts, while e-cards have been issued to more than 126,000 workers.
Recent achievements also include the establishment of an M&CC unit in Peshawar, construction of a 24-bed hospital in DI Khan, and installation of solar systems in medical centers.
Minister Faisal Khan Tarkai also distributed laptops among doctors for the implementation of the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS).
The minister said that online systems will ensure financial transparency, improved record management, and timely delivery of services to the public.
Minister Faisal Khan Tarkai said that merit, transparency, and public service are the government’s top priorities.
He added that the use of solar systems is being increased to conserve energy, and that institutional issues will be resolved on a priority basis to ensure the best possible facilities for workers.
