Education minister stresses digital literacy, announces AI classes in schools

Provincial Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Arshad Ayub Khan on Thursday emphasized the importance of education and digital literacy for the progress of nations, while addressing the 36th Annual Sports Day and Prize Distribution Ceremony at Fazal Haq College Mardan.
The event was attended by Secretary Education Muhammad Khalid Khan, Deputy Commissioner Mardan Wasef Ur Rehman, district officials, parents, and students.
Students showcased a variety of performances including PT drills, cultural dances from Hazara, Chitral, and Khattak regions, gymnastics, fire ring acts, horse riding, tent pegging, and martial arts, which drew appreciation from the audience.
Speaking at the event, Mr Khan highlighted that Fazal Haq College holds a prestigious place in the province and urged continued efforts to strengthen the institution. He praised the work of approximately 245,000 personnel serving in the Education Department and the ongoing reforms under Secretary Muhammad Khalid Khan, including the introduction of an e-transfer policy to ensure merit-based postings.
The minister announced that, with provincial cabinet approval, Artificial Intelligence (AI) classes from Grade 6 to 12 will be introduced across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting March 1, 2026. About 7,000 teachers will be recruited to implement the program.
He also urged students to respect their parents and teachers, maintain discipline, uphold moral values, and live with dignity.
The ceremony concluded with prize distribution for position holders, while Secretary Education Muhammad Khalid Khan was presented a shield by the college administration. The minister assured that all infrastructure challenges of the institution would be addressed.
