Mayor Mardan, Himayatullah Mayar on Tuesday said that effective measures are necessary to deal with the flood situation after the rains and with the cooperation of the relevant departments we can deal with the flood situation through effective planning.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of the relevant departments regarding the flood situation after the expected monsoon rains.
The heads of different departments attended the meeting. Mayor said that before the monsoon rains, all the departments should maintain cooperation with each other and make better planning and utilize all the resources so that in case of an emergency the flood situation people and their property and animals should be saved from floods.
He added that the smooth flow of water should be ensured in the drainage so that the flood water should not enter the houses, shops and markets.
Mayor said that all the encroachments that are causing obstruction to the drainage should be taken by the relevant departments as soon as possible so that there is no problem in case of emergency.
He argued that to deal with the flood situation all the departments should meet in their offices and prepare the next action plan so that effective measures can be taken in the flood situation.
Hamaytullah Mayar said that an awareness campaign should be conducted regarding expected rains and floods. He said that due to non-timely cleaning of canals and drains, we will face a flood situation.
He argued that through joint efforts and initiatives and better planning we can deal with the flood situation.
Mayor Mardan formed a committee comprising TMA, Local Government, Irrigation, WSSCM and C&W to give their suggestions in this regard.
Mayor said that the concerned department demolished the bridges which create hurdles in smooth flow of water in the drainage system of the city. He added that the city government will build bridges on the streets however no steps will be taken regarding bridging of private shops or markets.
Mayor gave instructions to the officers of the concerned department to prepare their reports in this regard so that timely assistance to the affected families is possible.
Mayor also instructed the officers to prepare themselves before the rains. He asked for a report regarding the relief and progress of the affected people in the last rains. He also directed the volunteers and sportsmen to keep busy with the departments in the rescue operation.
